The Road of Kings (Redux)

When I was a fighting man, the kettle-drums they beat.
The people scattered gold dust before my horse's feet.
But now I am a great king; the people hound my track,
With poison in my wine cup, and daggers at my back.

  1. Is there a reason you are leaving out The Black Stranger, God in the Bowl and The Vale of Lost Women (other than not being public domain)? The Black Stranger and God in the Bowl are both decent stories unlike TVoLW which I think is pretty bad.

I wonder what the surptise episode is!

  3. Mainly, these stories weren't published during Howard's lifetime, so they weren't on the list I was referring to. I'm not sure where in the list to put them. We'll have to talk about that sometime. What do you think, ripa? Where would you put these stories in this sequence? -Josh

    1. The Black Stranger should definitely follow Beyond the Black River. God in the Bowl & The Vale of Lost Women I think can basically go anywhere. The former features young Conan and was one of the first stories Howard wrote, and the latter was written around the time of Rogues in the House/Devil in Iron and takes place in the black kingdoms south of Stygia similar to Jewels of Gwahlur.
