Season 12, Episode 3: The Little Black Train (A Liminal Journey)

Manly Wade Wellman | The Weird Tradition | LibraryThing
Welcome, Cromrades! It has been a while, but we are still rolling down that Manly Road through the Appalachian Mountains with Manly Wade Wellman and his Silver John stories! This week, we take a ride on The Little Black Train (read it here) and see that, though death comes for each of us, a sinful life leads to a ride on the little black train to the bad place!

Note: Josh meant Josh Turner, not Josh Groban. Honest mistake. There are a lot of Joshes. But we are all Josh, each in our own way. Aren't we?

Shout out to Dreaming Creek Brewery, we're fans of their Kentucky Common! Stop by there if you're in the Richmond, KY area!

One Things:
Josh: Modern Video games: Video Card + Skyrim = Crazy Delicious!
Luke: The World Fantasy Awards Volume 1 & Volume 2. Also Abe Books!
Jon: The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck from Fantagraphics!

Featured on This or That - Tolkien Names vs Antidepressants

Lincoln's death train is an example of a little black train as harbinger of death, or ferry to the afterlife. We present a lengthy discussion on trains as symbols of transition, and as liminal space.

Next time: Call Me From The Valley. The Manly Road continues!
